Principal's Welcome Letter

Walker-Grant Middle School

Dear Tiger Families

My name is Angela Hinrichs, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Walker-Grant Middle School. It is my privilege to join a school rooted in community pride and dedication to excellence. I am overjoyed to return to Fredericksburg City Public Schools, where I began my own education as a student at Hugh Mercer Elementary School. After graduating from Courtland High School, I earned a Bachelors in English and Psychology from the College of William and Mary, followed by a Masters in Pre K-12 Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University. In December 2020, I will earn my Education Specialist degree from The University of the Cumberlands.

Over the past 28 years as both a teacher and an administrator, I have maintained my commitment to supporting all students as they strive to reach their fullest potential. When working with students, I reflect on how I would have wanted my own children treated in school as they spent time with adults; therefore, I treat every child with the same level of respect and caring as I do my own children. My goal is to ensure that all children are safe, healthy, and happy, so they are free to learn in a supportive environment. This has been my goal since I began my career as an English teacher at Courtland High School and continued as I taught at Salem Middle School in Chesterfield, and at The Commonwealth Governor's School. Eventually, my path led to an administrative intern position, followed by years as an assistant principal in regional school divisions.

Some of my varied responsibilities have included school safety, Special Education, and cultural diversity training, along with supervision of numerous academic departments. Professionally, I have had the honor of supporting thousands of diverse learners. However, my greatest achievement comes personally, as the mother of two wonderful children: my son, Jordan, and my daughter, Kameryn.

Students, I want you to enter and leave the building daily knowing that you matter to each and every one of us. You are special. My mission is to ensure that you all have meaningful and engaging experiences while attending Walker-Grant, and that you leave here equipped with positive memories, a love of learning, and the academic, social, and emotional skills needed to succeed in life.

Parents and Guardians, without you, we cannot reach our fullest potential as a school. We value you and your opinions and rely on you as partners in your children's education. Our current world pandemic has created a vastly different learning model. Likewise, it has changed the way we develop relationships, but we when we work together as a team- students, educators, parents, and community, we can do anything! I look forward to getting to know you and your amazing Tigers. Again, I am honored to bring all that I have experienced and learned with me to this magnificent school. Go Tigers!
