Student Athlete Handbook

Students who choose to participate in athletics are making a choice that requires self-discipline, and they should be aware that involvement in sports is a privilege, not a right. Student athletes are role models and should remember to present themselves as such. It is our intent to conduct a program that is educationally sound that will enhance each student's personal growth and development.

Expectations of Athletes

  • Any use or possession of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco will result in immediate dismissal from the team

  • Play the game for fun

  • Be modest when successful and gracious in defeat

  • A true sportsman does not offer excuses for failures

  • Respect the integrity and judgment of officials and accept their decisions without questions

Academic Requirements for Participation

Students will need to pass six out of their eight classes to be deemed eligible to play any sport within a grading period. Additionally, athletes may not have more than one D in core academic classes, including math, English, science, and history. For fall sports, grade requirements apply for the quarter prior to play. If an athlete is dismissed for academic reasons, they may play in the next season if their grades meet the eligibility requirements. The athletic director will review each student athlete's grades each grading period.

  • Fall Sports: Q4 grades of the previous year will determine eligibility. Q1 grades will determine continued eligibility for the season.

  • Winter Sports: Q1 grades will determine eligibility. Semester 1 grades will be used to determine continued eligibility for the season.

  • Spring Sports: Semester 1 grades will determine eligibility. Q3 grades will be used to determine continued eligibility for the season.

If a student is dismissed for academic reasons, they may play in the next season as long as their grades meet the eligibility requirements. The athletic director will review each student athlete's grades each grading period.
