FAM visits Hugh-Mercer fourth-grade classes

Fredericksburg Area Museum (FAM) educator Theresa Cramer visited the fourth-grade classes at Hugh Mercer to share the contributions of the Marquis de Lafayette and James Armistead to the American Revolution. The presentation focused primarily on the two men's relationship and how they joined forces to fight for James Armistead’s emancipation. The students participated in a discussion about the complexities of the American Revolution and its unfinished fight for rights and justice. During the month of November, the students will write persuasive letters inspired by Marquis de Lafayette to recognize the contributions of James Armistead. The chosen letters will be printed on silhouettes of the men, framed, and displayed in the museum exhibit in March 2024. Ms. Cramer will also present to Lafayette Elementary’s 5th-grade students during the last week of October.
