Principal's Message of the Week (August 16).

Good Evening Tiger Families,

This is Mrs. Hinrichs, Principal of Walker-Grant Middle School, with your update for the week of August 16th.

Monday begins an Orange Week

An Orange Week begins with A-day classes, and contains 3 A-day classes (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and 2 B-day classes (Tuesday and Thursday).  A White Week begins with B-day classes, and contains 3 B-day classes (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and 2 A-day classes (Tuesday and Thursday).  All core classes (English, Math, Social Studies, and Science) meet every day (A and B days), but knowing the A-day vs. B-day is important for our Exploratory and World Language classes since they meet on A or B days, not daily.  Look for a schedule of our A/B day calendar and Orange/White Week calendar on our website and on social media soon. I will also include the calendar as an attachment in next week's message.

We had an amazing week here at Walker-Grant.  The energy was high and our students and staff were excited to be back in school.  We will continue to regularly review our health and safety measures. 

Lunch Procedures

The CDC recommends distancing to the extent possible for meals knowing that students will not be wearing masks while eating and drinking.  Students should wash hands immediately before and after meals.  Currently, we have implemented additional procedures to encourage outdoor eating, classroom eating, staggering lunch times, and additional seating in order to spread students out more.  Students are encouraged to bring a beach towel for outdoor eating, weather-permitting, if they'd like to eat outdoors.


Students may request a locker if they would like one.  All current requests are being processed.  We hope to have all lockers distributed by the end of the week. All inquiries regarding lockers should be sent to Mrs. Frye, Assistant Principal, at


To our virtual students:  As your laptops become ready, we will notify you of their availability for pick up in the main office.


COVID has impacted staffing in many organizations from retail stores to the restaurant industry, and the educational system is no exception. Unfortunately, there are few teaching assignments listed as TBD that have not be staffed with a permanent teacher.  However, we are using our professional staff to provide meaningful instruction and support for our students.  We anticipate that we will have all positions fully staffed within the next two weeks. As staffing changes occur, students be given a letter to take home to keep families abreast of those changes, and to provide an introduction regarding our incoming teachers' qualifications and backgrounds. Look for welcome emails from new staff as they arrive to introduce themselves to our families. Thank you for your patience and support as we strive to provide the best instruction for our Tigers.
