Required vaccinations for rising 7th graders

Nurse and patient

Per the Code of Virginia, § 32.1-46 effective July 1, 2021

Students in all public or private schools in Virginia are required to have the following shots prior to entry into the seventh grade.

Tdap booster

Meningococcal (MenACWY)

HPV*

Students that have not received these vaccines will not be allowed to start 7th grade whether they attend virtually or in person. Please do not wait to schedule these shots since appointments may fill up. If you do not have a regular physician, you may call the Health Department. At this time the Spotsylvania Health Dept is accepting appointments for school age vaccines and their phone number is: (540)507-7400

*Because the human papillomavirus (HPV) is not communicable in a school setting, a parent or guardian, at the parent's or guardian's sole discretion, may elect for the parent's or guardian's child not to receive the HPV vaccine. No paperwork is required by the school if you opt out of the HPV vaccine. Tdap and Meningococcal are required unless your child has a valid religious or medical exemption.
