Weekly Update from Principal Ventura, 11/05/2023

Good Afternoon Tiger Family,     

This is your Principal Mr. Ventura with your weekly update. As we enter another exciting week at Walker-Grant, I would like to share some important updates and reminders with you. 

School Closures 

School is closed for students on Tuesday, November 7th for Election Day and again on Friday, November 10th in observance of Veterans’ Day. Please plan for your students accordingly. 

Student Recognitions Awards Assemblies 

Please join us in honoring our students for their quarter 1 accomplishments at W-GMS. Families are invited to our grade-level student recognition assemblies on the following dates: 

-On Monday, November 6th at 8:30 am we will honor our 6th grade students. Also on Monday, November 6th at 9:30 am we will recognize our 7th graders. 

-And on Wednesday, November 8th at 8:30 am we will have our 8th grade awards assembly. 

Grade Interim Reports 

Interim reports will be distributed to students on Thursday, November 9th. Parents, please review the grade reports with your students and contact their teachers if needed. 

Tiger Paw Enrichment Academy  

Tiger Paw Enrichment Academy will continue next week on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If you have not already done so, please consider signing up your student(s) for after-school tutoring. Transportation will be provided. 

Attendance Matters  

We would like to remind all families about the importance of regular attendance and arriving at school on time. Please continue to work with us to ensure that your child(ren) is establishing routines that support regular school attendance and understands the importance of communicating with us when an absence is unavoidable. Through our partnership, we can build a school community that understands that being in school is the best place for children to learn and are in a safe and welcoming environment while there.

JM Swim Team  

Any 8th grader interested in swimming for the James Monroe HS swim team should see Coach Slominski in room 236 to sign up and for more information. Practice will begin on Monday, November 6th at the UMW pool from 6:30-8:00 PM. Athletes must have a VHSL sports physical and have some swimming experience.
