Tea Time: FCPS News for August 10

Last Friday morning, FCPS faculty and staff gathered for Convocation ahead of the new school year. Centered around this year’s theme, “Building High Expectations,” the morning gave team members an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, welcome new faces, celebrate exceptional staff through special awards, and build excitement for the year ahead. We had a wonderful time coming together as one FCPS team, and now we’re ready to welcome our students back!

It's almost time! Tuesday, August 11 is Transition Day for Kindergarten, 6th Grade, and 9th Grade ONLY. All students will attend school on Wednesday, August 12. Before heading back, please take a moment to review our new school hours:

PRESCHOOL: No Change

ELEMENTARY: 8:55 AM - 3:45 PM

MIDDLE: 8:05 AM - 3:05 PM

HIGH: 7:30 AM - 2:30 PM

School supply lists for the 2026-27 school year are available online. Make sure your student has what they need for the first day of school!

As we prepared for the upcoming school year, we want to remind families that Virginia law requires certain immunizations for students entering kindergarten, 7th grade, and 12th grade. Routine immunizations are one of the best ways to keep children healthy, prevent illness from spreading in schools, and support uninterrupted learning throughout the year. If your child is due for required immunizations, now is a great time to schedule an appointment.

Families can schedule FREE school immunizations by calling the Fredericksburg Department of Health at (540) 899-4142.

The 2026-27 Instructional Calendar reflects a thoughtful balance of instructional time, scheduled breaks, and professional learning days designed to support student success and family planning. We encourage families and staff to review the calendar as they begin looking ahead to the upcoming school year.
