Last week, we took the Cat-bus and WGMS Tigers on the road for a festive holiday tour to deliver gifts around the community, 🧡. It was incredible as our students and families came out in full force to select free gifts available on our mobile shop. Merry Christmas Eve 💘!
Here’s some pictures from the Jr. Chef club event last Wednesday where they made dinner for Dr. Catlett and some members of the school board. The culinary students cooked and four of our JVG (jobs for Virginia’s graduates) students earned to serve and wait tables. The students prepared an incredible menu of salmon, calzones, risotto, string beans, and topped it all off with a dessert of cream puffs. It was an incredible display of teamwork, creativity, and culinary skill! 🥙🍲🧆

After reading “My Life With Chimpanzees” by Jane Goodall, English 6 classes got to hear from Ms. Dickinson, a parent of a 6th grade tiger, who worked with Jane Goodall and studied in Tanzania!
Students listened to her presentation then practiced their summarization and text features skills by writing concise captions for Ms. Dickinson’s pictures of her time studying chimpanzees and baboons in Africa. We’re so grateful for Ms. Dickinson for spending two days talking with 6th grade classes and helping them make connections beyond the classroom!
WAIT... there's more! Our emergent scientists conducted a DNA 🧬 extraction lab today! Using soap and salt solutions, and isopropyl alcohol, students paired together in Monster Mash formation to extract DNA strands from strawberries 🍓! "WOW," is all we can say. Go Tigers 🐯

So much success! This week, our students attended the APER Awards where they received official acknowledgments of their Accountability, Perseverance, Empathy, and Respect; in other words, our students celebrated their achievements in the warmth of family and friends! Tigers, ❤️🐯
