Join us for the 5th Annual Doug Carter STEM Fair hosted right here at Walker-Grant. Middle schoolers from around the area will compete for cash prizes while demonstrating their creativity and innovation. See you Saturday, April 26th!

Last week, we celebrated Month of the Military Child at Walker-Grant. We want to thank all of our military families and staff members for serving our community!
Our amazing 6th grade math teacher and veteran Dr. Avington, is pictured in his fatigues with fantastic Ms. Malone and Ms. Edleston. 🧡🇺🇸

Our Walker-Grant Tigers dominated in their recent track meet!!! Our runners, throwers, and jumpers came home as winners with a lot of records.
Special shout to our girls 4x100m team (Aydan Carter, Jaida Holmes, Evelyn Westerer, and Adrianna Dunn) and boys 4x400m team (Jaylen Francis-Smith, Trey Rackley, Devon Pinkney, and Cameron Aikens) for coming in first! 🧡

Big congrats to our Walker-Grant Band! They attended Music In the Parks competition at Busch Gardens on Saturday and competed against tons of talented bands. They earned “Superior” which is the absolute highest rating and came in 2nd place out all the MS bands competing in Class 1. They absolutely rocked their performances and then had fun frolicking around the park with their band “family.” Hats off to Band Director, Reba Ortiz, who has been prepping and busily practicing to get them all ready to rock the show! 🧡🎶

Walker-Grant students- Want to serve the community with your friends and have enriching field trips to connect with the community?! Consider applying for NJHS!
This March, NJHS sponsors, Ms. Rahn and Mr. Johnson, took students to University of Mary Washington to partner with @coarumw for their Annual Good Neighbor Day. NJHS students toured campus and participated in different service projects that will benefit Micah Hospitality Center. It was a great opportunity for NJHS students to make a difference and connect with college students! Walker-Grant students, be on the look out for an application soon! 🧡

As Spring Break wraps up, lets celebrate the great weather with one of our favorite spring traditions at Walker-Grant! Mrs. Moore in the library held these chicks in an incubator and we all got to welcome them when they hatched last week!! Students and staff loves getting to hold the four newest members of the Walker-Grant family 😉🐣

Outdoor athletic activities are postponed this afternoon!

There will be a large presence of public safety agencies at Walker-Grant Middle School and Lafayette Elementary School from 8am to 4pm on Friday, March 7, 2025. This is a non-instructional day where students will not be in attendance.
These buildings, along with City Schools teachers and staff, will be taking part in an exercise to test their response to an active threat. Neighbors around Learning Lane and Pender Street may hear sirens and see realistic emergency response behaviors in this area. All activities will be confined to the school grounds.
This exercise has been put together as part of the Technical Assistance Program offered through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management's (VDEM) Training Education and Exercise Division (TEED). After submitting an application as part of a competitive process, the City of Fredericksburg was awarded the Technical Assistance to conduct a full-scale exercise with the support of VDEM. Members of the City's Police and Fire Departments, Emergency Management, the City's Communications Division, the Sheriff's Office, Fredericksburg City PubIic Schools, and Mary Washington HeaIth Care together form the Exercise Design Team. They have been hard at work coordinating this exercise since September of 2024. The purpose of this collaboration is to work to ensure a safe and secure environment for our students, teachers, and staff in the schools, as well as for our neighbors in nearby communities.
Access to the site will be limited. Learning Lane is already blocked at Emancipation Highway due to the Culvert Pipe Replacement Project. The gate on Pender Street will be secured and staffed. Only participants in the exercise will be allowed beyond this point.

As a reminder, there is no school for students tomorrow, Friday, March 7, 2025.
