Good evening, Patriots,
This is an important message from Dr. Brenda Russ, Principal of Hugh Mercer Elementary School.
Learning Recap
We had another successful week of learning and growing! Our Kindergarten students learned about the properties of books (spine, front cover, back cover). First graders learned about the US Flag and Pledge of Allegiance, while fifth graders had a science experiment in which they were able to identify and control the dependent and independent variables, and third graders read and wrote six-digit whole numbers in standard, expanded, and word forms.
Events
As a reminder, we will host our Scholastic Book Fair this week! Students will visit the Book Fair during their library specials this week. Please visit our website and social media pages for more information.
Testing
Our students in Grades 1-5 continue to take their iReady (Math) and VALLSS (Reading) assessments this week.
Transportation
We've made some improvements with Transportation. We ask that all parents and families adhere to all safety protocols established by school officials, whether on the buses or in the car rider line.
Finally, September is Attendance Awareness Month! Be on the lookout for the Spirit Week Flyer which will include our Spirit Days for the week of September 15-19, 2025.
As always, please reach out to your child’s teacher or school if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you! Have a good evening!
Brenda Russ
