Principal Petty's Weekly Update: 04/13/2025

Good evening,

This is Marcus Petty, Principal of James Monroe High School, with some important updates.

Parents, did you know that 53% of high school graduates who pursue a postsecondary pathway change their major at least twice? These changes result in more time and money being spent in school.

To help our students make more informed decisions about their futures, seniors will have the opportunity to take the ASVAB test on May 8th. This test provides valuable insight into students’ skills and strengths, which can guide them in selecting a post-secondary pathway that best suits them. Parents please know, scores are not automatically shared with the military.  Students interested in the military must request that their scores be shared. Any senior who takes this step to better understand their skills and make a more informed decision about their future will earn a cord to wear at graduation, showing their commitment to personal excellence.

Seats are limited, so please encourage your student to sign up in the Counseling Office this week to take advantage of this opportunity.

A few more reminders:

Beginning on Monday (4/14/25), any student caught with a cell phone will need a parent to pick it up at school.  Pick up hours are between 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. Please remind your child to use their phone pouch daily.

Interim reports will be sent home with students on April 7. Please review them with your child and contact their teachers if you have any questions.

SOL testing begins April 22nd. Be sure to check the April Newsletter (attached to the email version of this message) for more information.
