Principal Ventura's Weekly Update

Good Afternoon, Tiger Family, 

This is your Principal Mr. Ventura with a few important announcements and updates for the week ahead. 

I hope you had a wonderful extended weekend filled with rest, relaxation, and quality time together. With state assessments quickly approaching, it's essential for our students to be mentally prepared and focused. Together, let's encourage our students to approach their studies with determination and enthusiasm. 

Q3 Report Cards 

Students received 3rd quarter report cards last Tuesday, March 26. Please review your student’s grades and reach out to their teachers if needed. 

 

Student Recognitions Awards Assemblies 

Families are invited to our grade-level student recognition assemblies on the following dates: 

 

  • On Wednesday, April 3, at 8am we will honor our 6th grade students. Also on Wednesday, April 3, at 9:30am we will recognize our 7th graders. 

 

  • And on Thursday, April 4, at 8am we will have our 8th grade awards assembly. 

 

Parent Teacher Conferences 

Parent Teacher conferences will be on Thursday, April 4, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Please call (540) 372-1145, by Wednesday April 3, so that we may schedule appointments with your child’s teachers. 

 

6th Grade Science Fair 

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming 6th Grade Science Fair, which will also be held on April 4, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. The science fair exhibits will be set up in the library, providing families with the opportunity to view them at their leisure.

SOL Testing Schedule 

Please mark your calendars with the following dates for Spring SOL testing at Walker-Grant Middle School. A printable copy is also attached to this message for your convenience.

Thursday, April 25th 

  • 7th grade — Civics 

  • 8th grade — World Geography 

 

Thursday, May 2nd

W-GMS Cell Phone Policy 

Please remind students that phones need to be off and away during school.  Cell phones should not be visible during class or in the hallways. Students may access their phones during breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria only. Additionally, students may access their phones during after-school activities and on the bus. 

 

After school Clubs 

After-school clubs will meet this Friday. Students assigned to a club are welcome to attend. 

 

Athletic Events 4/02-4/05 

Come out and support our student athletes this week! 

 

  • W-GMS baseball and softball host King George Middle School on Wednesday, April 3. Game time is 4:30pm. 

 

Germanna STEAM H Day 

Please save the date for the Germanna STEAM H Day on April 6 from 10am to 2pm. If interested in this fun-filled family day of learning, please see the attached flyer. 

 

 

Mental Health Resource Fair 

Please join us at the upcoming Mental Health Resource Fair, which will take place at James Monroe High School on Saturday, April 13, from 9am-2pm. This event aims to provide valuable resources and support for our community in promoting mental wellness and resilience. RCD Parents Night 

Exciting news! FCPS is transforming how we handle student discipline to better support each student's success. Join us for Parents Night on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 5pm - 6:30pm at James Monroe High School. Larry Thompson, creator of Responsibility-Centered Discipline, will be there to share insights and tips. Let's work together to help our students thrive! Doug Carter STEM Fair 

Consider attending the Doug Carter STEM Fair on April 20 from 10am – 12pm at the Caroline County YMCA. Cash and prizes will be awarded to category winners. If interested, please see the attached flyer. 

 

 

National Poetry Contest 

Is your student an aspiring poet? Encourage them to see Mrs. Moore in the library to pick up information regarding the National Student Poetry Contest. Submit entries no later than April 30. 

 

Yearbooks 

The deadline to order your yearbooks has been extended. W-GMS 2023 – 2024 yearbooks are only $25. The last day to purchase is April 5.
