This week, the FCPS Mental Health Youth Taskforce traveled to the Virginia Senate to be recognized for their work in supporting mental health in our schools. We were lucky to send six of our own tigers on this trip. They spoke with State Senator, Tara Durant, and toured the Capitol. What an honor for our students to celebrate their dedication to making school a more positive and healthy place for us all. 🧡🧡🧡

Some snapshots of the 6th Grade Awards Assembly today! We honored Improved Attendance, Perfect Attendance, A/B Honor Roll, All A Honor Roll, and a special recognition for students who embody our APER foundations: Accountability, Perseverance, Empathy, and Respect. We honored so many students today that it was hard to get pictures of all of them! It was an awesome morning to recognize the hard work our students put in every day. Congratulations, Tigers!! 🧡🐯

The deadline is almost here! 2025 Writing Contest: Innovating Smarter This contest is sponsored by the National Academy of Engineering and the theme this year is Innovating Smarter. Students will write a piece describing a common object they would make “smart” and explain what it would do, how it would help people, and what could go wrong. The contest is open to all students, of any gender, in grades 3-12 and the deadline is February 1. Need some recipe ideas for this week?? Take a look at two of the delicious creations our Jr. Chef Club created this month. They made some sweet "Very Berry French Toast" earlier in the month. This past Friday, ESL teacher Dr. Guedez stopped by to make Venezuelan Arepas. Yummmmmm 😋 A big thanks Mrs. Poudrier and Mrs. Bethem for hosting this club for our students!

Update #5 on Learning Lane Emergency Stormwater Repairs The City of Fredericksburg’s contractor has updated the project timeline for the ongoing emergency stormwater repairs on Learning Lane. Since the project began in August 2024, significant progress has been made, despite challenges posed by the weather and site conditions. Fredericksburg City Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Thursday, January 23. Employees should report two hours late. With expected dangerously low temperatures, please dress in warm clothing when outdoors and traveling.

🌟 Meet Ms. Massey, Our Amazing School Social Worker and Mental Health Taskforce Co-Chair! 🌟 Ms. Massey says she chose social work because, “I knew I wanted to help people, and social work allows me to support not just individuals, but their entire network. My passion for school social work comes from working directly with students — it’s truly my favorite part of the job!” 💙 She believes mental health is critical, especially in schools. Our students deserve to feel safe both mentally and physically every single day.
