6th grade students got outside this week to explore our local river. Big thanks to Friends of the Rappahanock (FOR) for partnering with W-GMS students to complete their Meaningful Watershed Experience (MWEE). What a beautiful week for a field trip. We are so lucky to have a community that works together to provide these real-life learning experiences! Thank you, Fredericksburg!!! 🧡🧡

A great week for field trips! Earlier this week, 8th grade students travelled to the D.C. National Zoo. It was a great day to learn about different regions and put their geographic knowledge to use. Next up: Sixth Grade goes to the River! 🐯🧡

6th grade Language Arts students had their first book club for their class novel "The One and Only Ivan" today! Students in Ms. Rahn's class discussed three different questions based on inferences and conclusions they drew from the novel. After discussing with their book club group, students chose the question they were most confident in to respond to on their own! They used textual evidence, interactive notebooks, and the novel to support their learning today. Oh, and no book club would be complete without cookies. Go, Tigers!!! 🐯🧡

Walker-Grant Middle School is so lucky to have our dedicated School Resource Officer Florio serving our community every day. Officer Florio was recently awarded the "Officer of the Year" Award from Fraternal Order of Eagles and the "Chief's Citation For Professional Recognition" from Chief Layton. Officer Florio, or "Bestie" as some students call him, is a dedicated, supportive, and strong mentor for the students of Walker-Grant. He works every day to meet student needs, protect, and care for our school community. As he walks the halls, connects with students during lunch, and leads the Criminal Justice After-School club, Florio works tirelessly to Make Walker-Grant home for our students. Walker-Grant is a better place with Florio! 🧡
