If you see a piece of plywood surrounded by four orange marking sticks at various locations in the City, please do not disturb them. This is actually a method that is used to report snow accumulation to the National Weather Service. These were used during our most recent snow event, and they have been cleared with the anticipation we could see some more snow in the next couple of days. They are placed at four locations throughout the City: Walker Grant Middle School, Dixon Park, Memorial Park, and the Ballfields/ Community Garden across from Wicklow Drive.

Fredericksburg City Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17 due to current wet road conditions in the area that are expected to freeze overnight and stay frozen throughout the day with extremely low temperatures.
Employees are on Code Red. Essential workers should contact their supervisor regarding report times.

Happy Snow ⛄️ Day to all!

FCPS will be on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10.
We are advised these conditions are resulting in flooding and may also result in downed trees and potential power outages.
Out of an abundance of caution, we believe a two-hour delay is warranted at this time for all students and employees.
Please stay tuned for possible updates.
Again, FCPS will be on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 10.

In our attendance meetings at W-GMS, we came to the conclusion that some of our attendance issues are due to students' self-esteem surrounding their appearance, specifically hair. With the teamwork of Ms. Cummings , Ms. Frye, Ms. Jones, Ms. Allison and our lovely hostess Ms. Brockenbrough we were able to coordinate a Cosmetology Hair Salon Day! This idea was an incentive for our attendance students to come to school because you just never know what surprises will be in store 😉 Attendance matters, because you matter!

Empowerhouse has partnered with Walker-Grant Middle School! In December, the local organization spoke to the 6-8 grade health classes on the use of technology and relationships, “Digital Connections”. The discussion emphasized the importance of online and internet safety. Topics covered included types of cyberbullying, uses and misuses of social media, forms of abuse that occur both in person and online. Students also learned about how to set boundaries and provide consent. A hotline and contact information for Empowerhouse was provided.

🎉Congratulations to our esteemed school board, who witnessed the return of Mr. Jarvis Bailey and welcomed Mrs. Molly McFadden!
Mr. Bailey and Mrs. McFadden took their School Board Oath of Office yesterday, January 2, 2024, at the Fredericksburg Courthouse and were sworn in by Judge Gordon Willis. Mr. Bailey has proudly served on the Board since 2007.
We look forward to their support of our FCPS faculty, staff, students, and families.
We are also grateful for Mrs. Jannan Holmes, who honorably served on our school board from 2010-2023. Today she also took an Oath of Office and will serve on the Fredericksburg City Council.
